March - April 2004 News

Youth Activities

On the 5th of March we once again received tickets via Andrew Richardson from Northumbria Police to take the youth group to see a basketball game in Newcastle.  The only difficulty on the night was the high winds had blown over trucks on the motorway and so by 10:00 PM the visiting team, which was travelling by bus, had still not turned up to play the game.

On the 14th of April 10, people went to Norway on the North Sea ferry as part of a youth trip.  It was a trip that was intended to allow the youth to get to know each other much better than they had before.  Two of the people going went through a major effort to go, as they had to get visas from London in order to travel, since they are from countries outside the U.S. or Britain.

Three of the sponsors that went on the trip are serving police officers with the Northumbria police force and so we felt that we did not need to fear for the their safety.  Most of those that went really enjoyed the trip (most were not sea sick) and Norway was beautiful once they arrived.

Church News

On The 24th of April, we were honoured to witness the birth of our dear sister Julie Dempsey into Christ through the waters of baptism in the North Sea.  It was a wonderful day and we had a number of young people that were there at the coast who showed a great deal of interest in what was taking place.  It was also great to have Stu Childre with us as a witness of this wonderful occasion.

On that same evening the church had a prayer and fasting time that went from about 9:30 PM to 12:30 for the prayer and we broke our fast the next morning at a breakfast prepared by Carol and Andrew, who did a great job.  The evening was well attended and those that attended were able to lift their prayers up to God and encourage one another in this special time.

Project News

On The 31st of March, the papers were signed to access funding that will enable us to hire a new Immigration worker that will be based at the Church building.  This worker will enable us to give very specialised advice to those who need it.

Computer Suite

Through funding provided by central government, we now have nine new computers in a computer suite at the building.  These computers are intended to provide free computer access to the community surrounding the building and to those groups that use the facility.  We are still awaiting the Internet connection, but it is hoped that we will be able to have that up and running very soon.  This will bring even more people into our building each week and it gives us further advertising across the city.

Family News

For those of you who have not yet heard Jonathan has asked Nicola Inness (from England) to marry him.  They are trying to set a date for this summer.  Jonathan has to work these things out with the Marines.  We are hoping that they will be able to hold their wedding in Lubbock, at the Broadway building sometime in July.
